After grinding the chamfer off of a perfectly good 1/4" drive 12mm socket, I was able to remove the 4 bolts holding the crankshaft pulley and the pulley - and found that what I thought was a "hub" or "washer" was actually a large bushing...... one of the dumber things I've seen from Mitsubishi.
After removing the carburetor, fuel pump and thermo vacuum porcupine under the intake manifold, I managed to remove all but 2 of the intake manifold fasteners..... finally gave up/wised up and removed the head with the intake manifold attached.
The 2 head bolts that go between 1/2 and 3/4 exhaust ports were both carboned up, so I guess the head lifted from heat on the exhaust side...... which brings up the next questions:
How can I get rid of the jet valves? Can I just remove the valve and plug the hole with a bolt - or is some other arrangement necessary - like maybe an o-ring seal?
What happens with the jet valve passages if I block them off - do they get carboned up and become a source of pre-ignition?
What about grinding off the jet valve lever arm from the rocker?
