Thanks, guys - don't feel reluctant to give advice on this truck/engine/transmission, because I don't know a thing about it. I usually learn my own stuff fairly well, but since I'm not a mechanic by trade and haven't had any experience with the Mitsubishi "L" engines, I consider myself a rookie in the practical area for these little trucks.
From initial reading and remarks here, it seems to me that:
1) the turbo swaps are somewhat convoluted 2) the KM132-8 transmission is a limiting factor for big HP 3) the M/T is not the best choice for a turbo 4) the 3.0L swap is interesting since the trucks later offered it - but only with 4WD and another transmission, so it may not work easily with the 2WD platform and standard crossmember
For now, I'm going to try a quick and dirty head gasket replacement and see if it'll run ok for a while. Then, with a little more time and study:
1) It seems like a change to the DOHC head, running it non-turbo EFI would be a nice improvement and could be done without too much fuss. 2) A small blower might be possible and would work better with the M/T and larger tires as a daily driver.
Thanks to all.
Frank
