Well, the good news is the oil pressure switch fixed the idiot light problem, so I know there's oil pressure.
The bad news is the head gasket is blown at a minimum..... water in the oil, but there's not yet any ticking or knocking so maybe the bearings are still good.
Results of compression test:
#1 = 170 psi - spark plug very sludgy #2 = 120 psi - spark plug good #3 = 160 psi - spark plug tight/bindy/rusty #4 = 110 psi - spark plug good
What's the line on these heads - do they usually warp when a gasket goes south? What's the odds of getting reasonable cylinder pressure across all cylinders on a 2.0L this old if I don't re-ring and bore-hone? That 170 psi number on #1 is encouraging. I'm wondering if I can do a quick and dirty gasket replacement and get by for a while until I finish the G-Raider. I could yank that itty-bitty head and replace the gasket in a few minutes tomorrow.
I did find a couple of non-turbo 2.0L Eclipse DOHC 16v donors in the yard...... is this the head I want for a conversion - or should everything come from a turbo car?
How about running the DOHC head non-turbo until I can accumulate what I need in the way of time and parts? Is it a simple swap, or no?
