I've seen a LOT of stock bumpers that have been bent from overloading. I've got a 4" dealer-installed tube on mine. One of these light years, I'd like to have a friend install a couple flat plate for foot placement.
Mine's rated for 4000 horizontal pounds; vertical 2500#, FWIW. I've stuck a 2" ball on it several times over the years, and it does just fine without a tow package. I even towed home another Yota on a car dolly a couple years ago; nary a whimper.
