The FJ is actually a pretty well designed vehicle, at least in terms of its mechanicals. I'm definately not a fan of the body or the lack of vision out of the windows, etc.

But it has nice heavy duty frame, based on the overseas Prado (Land Cruiser) and current generation 4Runner, and 8" front and rear diffs and the same front suspension as the Tacoma/4runner/Prado/Tundra. The rear suspension is basicly the same coil suspension that dates back to the mid 1980s on some Land Cruisers and works just fine.

It has some nifty features like the carpetless interior and it's not to big, but not too small. Sort of a good replacement in terms of size for the older 4runners.

And most importantly, in my opinion, it's built in Japan, with mostly (I think) Japanese parts.

There is a lot of hype surrounding the FJ and the body is definately ugly as sin and designed to attract a certain percentage of "wannabes", just like the H2 and H3, but unlike other rigs, the FJ has the mechanicals to back it up.
