Originally, I posted this in the wrong section, so here is the repost.
I have imported to Canada a 1990 Isuzu Bighorn UBS55CW, 2.8 intercooled turbo diesel. The truck and engine are excellent, but I am having a hard time finding an oil filter for it. There is no part number on the filter currently on the truck. I have searched the forum and the internet and it seems that there are a lot of different filters used on these engines, I haven't been able to definitively say that I have found the correct filter for my truck.
I took the one off my truck and found that the thread diameter was 26mm (huge!) and the OD of the filter was about 94mm. (As well, it says it is a combination filter.)
The filter was tough to remove, and is oriented vertically with the filter in a draining position (threads and o-ring facing downwards).
If anyone can help me find a Wix, Isuzu, or any other manufacturer part number that I can cross reference here in North America, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks in advance.
Matt
PS: When I searched the forum, I came up with one person who uses a Wix filter on a 4JB1TC that has a thread of M20x1.5 ... I don't think that this is the correct thread on my filter, but I might be wrong.

Matt, I was looking on Ebay UK and found oil filters available through this company that is auctioning on there. The good thing is they have more than one oil filter. Here is the link: 4JB1-T oil filter Hope this helps you out and I see you posted another message like this originally in the Isuzu Tech forum. I replied to your message you posted there too if you haven't already checked it out.

Have a look at this thread (esp. page #2). I have the same engine you do, installed in a 1988 Trooper.
I have purchased this Wix filter but not installed it yet so I can't confirm it's correct other than that it certainly looks right. As long as the Isuzu number posted in the thread is correct the Wix should be the one, though.
Let me know if it works for you.

Thanks for the input everybody.
I saw the post with the Wix filter 51523, but I am sure that is not the correct thread for my engine (the wix website says it is M20 x 1.5). I think the engine you put in your trooper, ACY76, is a newer engine than mine, and I think they changed the oil filter threads for that one (not sure though).
I measure 26mm across the internal diameter of the female threads. This leads me to believe that it is an M26x1.5 (don't have a thread pitch gage available).
I found this website this afternoon Filter cross reference
Lower in the page in small print it says that isuzu used these filters on the 88-91 UBS55 with the 4JB1TC engine (which is exactly what I have).
As a bonus, the thread size is M26x1.5 and the dimensions look the same as my filter.
I cross referenced the OEM part number with an Isuzu industrial dealer out of Edmonton and found the part number 8942604270 has been superceded by PN 897329-9110.
However....my cost on this baby is $30CDN (about $26.75USD)...Ouch! It is a stock part out of California.
I have not been able to get any of the Fram, AC Delco, or other filters (mentioned on the webpage) to cross-over on any North American manufacturer's cross-over tables.
So as it looks, I think we have found the filter, identified the part number, identified all of the cross-over filters (shown on the link), now it is just a matter of finding if any of these manufacturers distribute it in North America for less than $27USD....and then find their distributors.
By the way, great blog about converting the trooper.
I have just imported another trooper for a friend that lives in Edmonton, so we might have to start a North American diesel trooper page.

Thread size is measured (well in metric anyway) by measuring the OD or total dia of the male thread.
Try this link for filter part numbers, Click;
http://www.clubisuzu.com/ then "Workshop" --> "Part Numbers"
Removing the filter can be hassel until you get it right.
1) Some people remove the wheel and go in through the wheel arch. There is a flappy rubber mat thing that you can push out of the way.
2) Some use oil filter clamps that look like a three leg spider and come down over top of the filter.
3) My method, takes about 3 mins, is to use a long tent peg and punch a hole in the top about 1/2" off center and then another 1/2" off center. Take an 1" open ended spanner and smack into into the holes with a hammer. Take the tent peg in stick it in the ring end of the spanner and rotate. About one turn is all you need then it will come off by hand.

Hello Matt --
Just an update: the Wix filter PN I posted above is indeed NOT the correct filter. The one I need sounds exactly like the one you've been researching. Did you ever come to any conclusions as to availability on the North American aftermarket, or is the Isuzu industrial dealer the only way to go?
I guess I should have asked this first, but: did that Isuzu PN work out for you?
Thanks.

Well, I ordered 4 of the filters Mattc mentioned from the nearest Isuzu industrial dealer (North Dakota). They fit perfectly and seem to be the factory part. They are not dual-stage like the one that came off the engine, and I was told this is the only filter that will thread on. This should just mean a shorter replacement interval (Jerry Lemond said 3k miles rather than 7.5k for the dual stage). If anyone needs to contact an industrial dealer, take a look at this page.

what! $26 here it costs only USD 8.00 for an oem isuzu filter for a 4JB1-T. then again we might have different filters as our engine does not have EGR lines.
