Isuzu Wizard (Vehicle cutting out) 4JX1 3.0 Diesel
      #867741 - 03/27/06 07:50 PM

I have read some of the forum and noticed there was a tread something similar to another vehicle the same as ours with "Starting issues" . I hope this forum can help us as my wife and I are at our witts end as this is a family wagon and the repairers are at a loss and we are stressing over the costs to date and in the costs in the future.

We have a 1998 Isuzu Wizard with a 4JX1 3.0 Turbo Diesel which has done 82,000kms . A week ago after refueling my wife drove the car and it just stopped while driving and then immediatly after was able to restart. This happened a few times (when under idle at a stop)but would restart. I tested when she got the car home and it ran for about 15 minutes under idle then just stopped, I restarted it and it did it again.

We have taken to dealership who are agents for (Holden/Isuzu) and who previously did the Injector Recall (replacing the seals on o rings)about a year ago and also replaced the Oil Sensor and Wiring Harness (oil rail pressure sensor leaking into injector wiring harness. The tech 2 computer is not logging any faults in the ECU (vehicle been driven several times to find fault but nothing showing up)

The following has been done so far
- Change oil and filter (used Mobile 1 5w 30), replace fuel filter, bypass filter
- checked low and high pressure oil supply to injector rail - OK
- disabled alarm system (aftermarket)
- checked fuel lines for air leaks

They now say will have to "try" things until find fault. Maybe only option left but could be very timly and expensive

I am hoping someone out there either nows of this fault and can help us so we can get rid of our stress!

Unfortunately, many of the members who post/view the forum regularly are based in the USA - these vehicles were not sold here, so not much experience with them.

You might try this site as it's populated by members from New Zealand and Australia where (I believe) these trucks are much more common.

Good luck.

THIS SOUNDS LIKE IT MAY BE A FUEL TANK VENTING PROB, BECAUSE IT IS DOING IT WITH A FULL TANK OF FUEL, TRY THIS AND NOTICE IF THE TANK IS NEAR EMPTY OR AROUND THE HALF MARK WILL IT STAY RUNNING LONGER , ON A FULL TANK IF IT IS A VENTING PROB, IT WON,T RUN VERY LONG UNTILL IT SHUTS DOWN FOR A SHORT TIME UNTILL THE PRESSURE IN THE TANK EQUALIZES AND THEN IT WILL START RIGHT UP AGAIN , THE LOWER THE FUEL LEVEL THE LONGER IT SHOULD RUN IF THIS IS THE PROB, NOT KNOWING THE EMISSIONS CONTROLS YOU HAVE THERE , TRY THIS REMOVE THE FUEL CAP OR INSTALL VERY LOOSELY FOR A WHILE THIS MAY TRIGER A CHECK ENG LIGHT ON THE DASH ,IT DEFINATELY WILL ON U.S. MADE VEH MADE AFTER 1996, BUT THE LIGHT WILL GO AWAY AFTER A FEW STARTS ANYWAY IF THE PROB, IS CORRECTED , WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THE ENG COMP, IS MEASURING A VACC CHANGE IN THE TANK IN ORDER TO MEASURE A FUEL SYSTEM AIR LEAK AND IT CAN TRIGGER A CHECK ENG LITE , YOU MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE THIS FEATURE , BUT DRIVING WITH A LOOSE CAP WILL NOT HARM ANY THING , IT IS WORTH A TRY IF IT SATYS RUNNING HAVE THE DLR LOOK FOR PINCHED , DETERERATED, HOSES OR MAY BE JUST A FAULTY CAP, NOT A BIT UNCOMMON OF GAS VEH IN THE U.S. JERRY

Thanks for the feedback

After exhausting all the mechanical options the mechanics moved into the electrical and it ended up being a faulty ECU unit. Running ok so far, fingers crossed
