STRAIGHT AXLE CONVERSION
      #699274 - 03/20/05 06:50 PM

Hey guys, I need some feedback. I'm thinking of doing a SAS on my 97 T100 and I have someone that will help me do it, but I just want to see if some of you T-guys out there have pictures of yours done, or know of any good sites for info on this subject. I'm just trying to figure out what its going to take to do this project. Thanks!

An axle helps, as do springs...gonna need steering, front driveshaft...basically everything from the tcase forward...and a way to cut out the ifs and stick the SA stuff under it.

A high pinion axle or dual cases would really make the swap ideal for the sake of a decent driveshaft angle.

I have the white T with the SAS. It took a bit of work but its well worth it over the IFS in regards to strength and wheel travel. Let me know if you have any specific questions.

The guy who is going to help me do the project says that I should use a front end out of a mid-80's 4x4 yota, and that should mount up easier. Everyone that i have seen with a SAS on a T-100 is running a chevy front end. Is that just because those are more heavy duty or is the guy wrong about using the old yota front end? Will the old yota front end be too narrow?

teh mid 80's yota front end is 55" WMS to WMS. you need 66-67". the chevy dana 44 is the best choice.

What exactly is the difference between the Dana 44, and a Toyota Axle? Im interested in a SAS, is the decision between the two hard? I heard something about steering problems with the Toy.
How do you go about shortening an axle? Would that be required with a 44? I would not want to use wheel spacers, and i believe you need to with a Toy.
Heh, Im full of questions tonight!
