Zerks on Double Cardan on 96
      #569444 - 08/05/04 12:47 PM

I see two zerks on the outside of the Double Cardan joint, are there anymore on it? And are they both for the Double Cardan? I'm trying to figure out what grease I need to use on them, and thats why I'm asking.

Yes there is a third one as shown below.. Rotate it by hand and look from the back side of the joint and you will see it.

Rear Drive Shaft

Front Drive Shaft

You should use molybdenum disulphidelithium base grease as noted below for the cardan (fittings "C" shown below") and sliding yokes (fittings 2 and 7).

I use Mobil XHP222 grease on all the fittings.

On the sliding yokes you won't see the grease squirt out anywhere, so don't try to fill it up. Give it 4 or 5 pumps with the gun and no more..

I use the same grease. I really like the Mobil grease, I use the special molly grease where moly is required and the mobil synthetic lithium soap based grease for the other areas, seems to work fine.

Funny comment about the sliders; I found out the hard way, I pumped once until I could see the slider move slightly with each pump, but no grease coming out yet. Well I checked on it a hundred miles or so later and there was grease everywhere. Don't overfill.
