Gathering data, need your help.

If you own a trooper, vehicross or 1st gen rodeo, amigo, or P'up and you still have your IFS could you please measure your tie rods for me. I'm looking for the dimension from center of TRE to center of TRE. Please post the year and model of your vehicle. Measurements dont need to be ultra precise, within 1/16-1/8" should be close enough. Thanks a lot.

wow thats a bit longer than I was told before. did you measure both sides to make sure they were the same? Guess i'll have to check a couple. exactly what year is your rig just so I can keep track of everything? I'm thinking I'll need a number of people with the same trucks to get a good feel for the range of lengths. Different trucks will be slightly different due to alignment differences.

thanks.

Dallas

EDIT: just noticed the rig in your sig line. I assume this is what you measured.

Dallas, Yes, I gave you the measurementa from my '95 trooper.I'll confirm the lengths tomorrow. The measurements came from memory, but I'm pretty sure they are accurate. 2nd gen trooper tie rods run a couple of inches longer than first gens. Mark

Yeah I know they are longer than the early trucks, but IIRC the measurement I was given was 11.5". There is a bit of adjustability in them for alignment, but I wouldn't think there would be a 1.5" difference. Thanks for checking for me.

Well I tried to measure in dark, but side flood lights are out (dang honey do list!). ANyway, my tie rods are defintely 12" plus center tpo center. It was dark, so measuremnt was rough. I put both sides within .25" of 13". Heres an image that you can use to judge length

The DOR shield is approximately 9.25"

I've got a couple spares still from my IFS. They're about 10.75" - 11" center to center.

On my 95.5 rodeo, one side is 10.5, the other 10.75. My spares are from 2 different 91 or 92 rodeos, and one is 10, the other 10.5. HTH

Thanks for the info guys. Heres what I have so far.

92-94 trooper are about 11-12"

95+ troopers are 12.5-13.5"

1st gen Rodeo (and probably amigo, trooper and P'up) are 10-11"

Now the reason I'm giving a range for all these is because of the differences in alignments.

The basic breakdown as I understand it is this

89ish-95 amigo rodeo P'up and trooper are all the same (10-11"?)

95.5-97 rodeo have a different front end with longer tie rods, still undetermined

92-94 troopers are one length (11-12")

95+ troopers are slightly longer (12.5-13.5")

I think that should cover all the different models and years, unless someone has something to add. The only one here I'm not sure of is the 95.5-97 rodeos. I know RodeoGuy said his is a 95.5 but it seems to fall into the range of the early trucks, and i've heard that the later 1st gen rodeos had longer TRs, closer to the length of the 92-94 troopers.
