Is your rig a v6? I have a 2.25 inch muffler shop cat back with a 3 chamber flowmaster. I'll go get an audio clip... It doesn't sound like a honda at all.

You have an '86, so I take it you have the 22RE then.
For a page chock full of vids, I put one together last year and have been adding to it. It is all 3.0 and 3.4 V6s though, but it will give you a general idea of what each make of muff sounds like.
I run the 14" Magnaflow on my V6 with 2.25" from the cat back. It sounds great, and much better than what the vids can get across.

My LCE catback wakes up the neighbors. :-) Would rather have a quieter muffler and more horses from a more powerful engine, like a 7M-GTE.

I have a Flowmaster and 2" cat-back on my '85 4Runner, works well, nice sound, not too loud.

I run a DynoMax super turbo muffler. I think it has a lower pitch than the flowmaster. I ran 2.25" exhaust tube from the cat back, with a 2" generic aftermarket cat. Made a significant improvement in power, most noteabally on the freeway. This was with the stock manifold.
I later got a header but can't say it made that much of a difference. [ March 26, 2003, 01:04 PM: Message edited by: thecarterman ]

I'm about to pick up a used LC header and replace my crumbling exhaust in the process. Still looking for a shop to do this for me but...
Wanted to see if anybody knew the cat/muffler combo that has the most power gain possible with little increase in noise, not interested in how it sounds, the quieter the better just not "less power" quiet. So far would get 2.25 pipe, not sure what cat, and flowmaster 50 series delta flow (specifically due to less sound than 40 series). Still checking DynoMax, but it appears I'd have to go with 2" pipe max. [ April 01, 2003, 10:07 AM: Message edited by: dajabr ]
