What is my stock rim size? how can i find it?
      #494101 - 04/03/04 03:43 PM

How do I know what my rim size is? Stock rims--1987 Troop 2.3....Tires i have are 235/75/r16, interested in 33''ers but that would require regear to have any torque, right?

I don't know myself but use the search function and you will probably find 2 days worth of reading on this subject.

It should say your stock tire and rim size on that little sticker on the little sticker on your drivers door jam. And if you wanted to know width, I think thats stamped on the wheel somewhere. Probably 16x7?

33's are gonna suck a lot of power, and from what I hear the 2.3 ain't no powerhouse. Someone with that engine would be better to answer this question, but I guess it depends on how much you drive on the road. Off road will still not be good but you can stick it in 4lo the whole time and be pretty good.

And yah search is a good thing make sure to put the little + in front of every term

thanks, i tried search function but it doenst work...I typed in the search box "rims" and all it does is bring up recent posts of random topics...anyways thanks, and I do extensive offroading, I dont mind being slow on road, just as long as I can get up to speed. =) Wouldnt highway cruising benefit MPG tho? Im at 3000rpm at 70mph right now, it would be more like 2600 with 33s, lower rpm=better mpg right? thanks

mabye you should type "wheels" as this is not a "fast and the furious" forum.

Sorry if I am missing something in this question...... but the 16 at the end of the tire size indicates a 16" wheel. If you are asking for width, as said above the size and width will be stamped on the inside of the wheel. IIRC, 16x7 for aluminum wheels, and either 16x7 or 16x6 for steelies.

The tires you have now are roughly 30"...... so yes, moving up to 33's with a 2.3 will be a noticible hit in power. When you "need" to regear is really a matter of opinion and how much you are willing to put up with or spend. If you are set on 33's, I'd just put them on and drive it for a couple of weeks so see what you think before buying any gears. JMHO

If you have power to spare, otherwise it will just bog you down. And we do not have power to spare. Besides, 33's are heavier and wider stickier tires have more friction on road and lifts create more drag blah blah blah. Trust me your troopers mileage will drop a few if you even mention 33's in its presence. So if you are worried about gas mileage, might wanna stay with 31s. Or buy a hybrid.

I think he was asking if the tire size/ wheels he has are the stock ones

And yah, the search function is really touchy. You need a more specific topic, like '+wheels +trooper +1987' Or if you can't find anything that way see if you can just find someone else with an 87 trooper and see if they got a website with some pics.
