Anyone put a CS130 105 amp alt on thier truck?
      #411704 - 12/19/03 05:23 PM

My alternator is only putting out 13.5 volts max right now my truck is drawing about 80 amps of juice with all the accesssories way too much with the wimpy 60 amp alt.
I just bought a CS130 105 amp Alternator from the junkyard for $30. It looks pretty new the testing date was in 2000 so I think all I have to do is make some kind of lower mounting bracket and splice some wires since I got the connector with it and put some 8 gauge wire to the battery.
Anyone else done anything like this?

A big reason I chose this alternator is it is cheap price wise and easy to rebuild and fairly easy to upgrade it.

Here is a diagram of the connectors so I can splice the AC delco CS130 connector to fit the toyota alt harness.

That looks pretty trick. The only problem is that it is GM. My Camaro Alt gave out around 30K. I'm not dis'n the idea. Just so you know that the quality might not be up to par.

Well I test fit the delco CS130 tonight it fits great yeah....
Well the only thing I need to do is shim the upper mount bolt with some washers for the alternator position and I used a another alternator bracket from a older toyota camry alternator and bolted it to my exisiting one. The delco alternator bolts right to it and adjusts so all I need now is a longer alternator belt and it is installed and ready to go. Who would have known no major modification or welding required all bolt on baby....
I'll take some pics of the bracket and stuff when I am done.

The only issue so far is finding a longer alternator belt. I am not going back to advance auto parts! Trying to find a custom app is like pulling teeth there the knuckle heads can't figure out what I am trying to do. Even though I explained myself many times.
Sorry been busy with family stuff all day so I might not be able to get back to work on it until friday morning I will get some pics up when I can though.

I wouldn't worry too much about the alt. quality. I run an AC Delco as my auxilery alternator and it's worked fine for several years. Besides, you can find a replacment ANYWHERE! And they shouldn't be too expensive. Carry a spare if you're real worried about it.

Ya I am not too worried I have heard from some that the delco alternators are prone to failure from mud but this is on a taco running a 2.7l 4 cyl and those are mounted lower than the V6 so it is usually the first thing to get muddy on the engine. I think it was a bad placement for the alternator on those engines. My Nissans were mounted in the same position V6 or 4 cyl luckily I never had one fail. The nissans are running usually the hitachi's about the same as the nippon denso's.
The next alternator will probably be a hyped up 170 amp mercury cougar one since they are almost the same nippon denso design and they put out 100 amps at idle. They also only cost $129 instead of $300 for a green meanie...
