It's time to pick up a set of rear springs for my '93.
A lot of guys have been running the VSW springs, but there have been scattered reports that they start to sag early.
I don't know anything about the Pedders, although I see some of our friends down under use them.
Old Man Emu also makes a set. They are probably high quality, but only provide about 1" or so lift over stock. Maybe an extra 1.5" could be gained from using a spacer above the coil. (I think the toyota/isuzu guys do that)
My Monte won't be used for any heavy towing. I just want some more clearance to clear 32's, and maintain a decent ride.
Thanks in advance, Steve [ September 02, 2002, 09:25 AM: Message edited by: DougH ]

Unfortunately the VSW are still the way to go, I have an extra set for sale. Know nothing of Pedders, but 1.5" aint much. The OME are OBVIOUSLY designed for a lighter vehicle and collapse after a few days and cause sever bottoming out do to being vastly weeker then stock. Yes, tried it twice in the past.

I have the pedders coils and they work great, I was attempting to get the VSW coils but they never returned any faxes or emails that I sent so I just got vex and just emailed a company in australia and had my coils in about 3 weeks. It cost a bit more but it was less hassle.Hope that helps Alan ------------------ 1993 V6 2Door 33x12.5 cooper discoverer STT 15x7" American racing rim 2" Pedders rear coils k & N air filter ARB Snorkel ARB Compressor & tire inflation kit ARB rear Locker Warn XD9000i winch Custom winch bar Torsion bar lift in front longer Rancho Rs9000 shocks Sway bars removed My 2nd. What about stock four door springs? Are they any higher than stock 2 door springs? If so, it might be a great chance to "recycle" for us 2 door guys, by swapping in some discarded 4 door coils you guys have lying around! Hey guys, thanks for the input.Paul, any idea if valley springs are currently shipping the updated thicker springs? Lloyd, I saw your post that mentioned parts for sale. But you stated the springs were for heavy duty towing. I don't want to end up with a stiffer "dump truck" ride. If they are the regular springs, how much are you asking for the set? Alan, could you tell me which company sells the Pedders? Paul or anybody that have the stock laying around could you give me the unloaded dimension of your stock coil? I need the height, diameter of the spiral and diameter of the material to start looking at the junkyard see if Ford or 2wd chevy truck front spring could be used. I know Lloyd would jump here and say they are all crap but if the price is right who cares and if that works it sure beat the hell of dealing with VSW crappy customer service.

I found the coil spec in my manual wire dia 14.2-15.8 mm (0.56-0.62") O.D. 160.2-161.8 MM (6.31-6.37") FREE LENGTH 404.5 MM (15.93") SPRING CONSTANT 27-39 N/mm (151-218 lbs/in)They must have a huge preload since my rear coil looks less than 10" tall sitting on the truck. So if you want to order one from VSW you might want a progressive spring from say 220 to 250 lbs/in for 15% higher rate. You could not just add 2-3 inch to the free length since it varies with the material and thickness. Surprisingly the coil have very close spec to Jeep XJ/ZJ front spring. Too bad they have different type of pig tail build to them.
