Make Tera differential gears a reality - group buy
      #264065 - 12/21/01 07:43 AM

I thought I'd create this thread with a little more catchy subject in response to what Jims (AXES1) got going on over in the tech board, PLEASE READ.....and bare with me, it's alot of reading.

Yes, it is true... Tera has completed their engineering process on the Isuzu R&P and is willing to start production provided they can get 20 pre-orders.

For those who are unaware... if you are bummed out from the loss of power and acceleration big tires have caused, tired of your speedometer being horribly off, or just seeking a little more offroad performance with some lower gears... there hasn't been much you can do about it up until now because of the non-existant support for your front axle, the Isuzu corp. 10-bolt. Regearing will help to counteract the effects of large tires giving you that stock acceleration back.

So heres where Tera comes in...
5.13 Ring and Pinion, Isuzu Corp. 10-bolt
The gears will cost $210.00 for each set, but if we get up to 40 sets, the price will drop to $175.00 each. Tera will need a 50% non refundable deposit for each pre-order. Thats only $105 now and $105 later, very fair if you ask me.
Application: well, the Isuzu corp 10-bolt is the front axle on almost every Isuzu vehicle.

Of course you'll need to regear the rear axle at the same time if you wish to use 4wd. For the Rodeo and 2nd gen Amigos, this isn't a problem. Tera already stocks 5.13 gears for your rear axle, the Dana 44. 5.13s are also available for the D44 from several other manufactors.

But, Jim raised this question in the other thread:

quote:
This is a great step forward, but it leaves a real hole for those running Isuzu 12 bolt rear axles - there is no source for 5.13s (that I know of) for the Isuzu 12 bolt. That limits the market to those with Dana 44 rear axles, the Amigos and Rodeos, which is still a sizeable market.

Well, Mark Falkner at Tera has agreed to extend the same offer to the 1st gen Amigos and Troopers. get 20 pre-orders and Tera will produce 5.13s for the Isuzu Corp 12-bolt as well. He will need the same number of deposits, at the same cost... the end price may increase $5.00 due to the size of the 12-bolt R&P.

So, come on guys, 20 deposits of only $105 is not bad at all. Its a very fair and reasonable offer... not to mention finally a chance for us to see some aftermarket support for the Isuzu axles.

To summerize,
- 20 deposits of $105 gets the 5.13 R&P for the Isuzu corp. 10-bolt produced. Final cost (counting deposit) will be $210
- 20 deposits of $105 gets the 5.13 R&P for the Isuzu corp. 12-bolt produced. Final cost (counting deposit) will be $210-215

Details of the group buy:
Tera will handle collection of the deposits. A 50% of the final cost, non refundable deposit is required at time of pre-order. Deposits will be refunded only if the minimum order is not met. Production of the R&P's will start as soon as minimum order/deposit are met.

YES!...........YOU ARE AWESOME!
there is only one other thing, how may we keep track of how many people have sent in a deposit? i know at least for me the antisipation will kill me...not knowing how close or how far we are away from production.
is there something we can do about that?

Officially, Tera will be handling deposits. I'm talking to Mark right now to find out if there is a specific person at Tera you'll need to speak to.
We can probably keep a running list on here as well of who's paid and so forth.

Question...I don't really plan on running anything over 32's, well, for now anyway. Are the 5.13's beneficial for this application or just unneeded expense?

Good job Rob-

You east cost guys are much faster than I am this morning. Then again, that is only because you have that 3 hour advantage. You did a great job of answering the questions I posted over in the other thread and then subsequently deleted. Everything looks great.

Is there any word on their R&D progress on the 12-bolt? I would hate to see the 10-bolt gears go into production and then us 12-bolt'ers have to wait forever for our matching gears.

Michael

Here's a Gear Ratio Chart. If you look at how many RPMS you ran with your stock tire size and your stock gear ratio, then compair it to how many you'll be running with 5.13s and 32/33, it should put you right about the same number (or slightly over).
IMO, 5.13 is the optimum ratio for Isuzus running 32/33s... especially for those with 4cyl. and manual trannys.

I'm checking on it for you Michael, but the way i understood it from Mark was they were ready to move on the 12-bolt as well assuming we could meet the minimum order.

I'm thinkin its time for another long assed thread like the 10 bolt ARB one. Rob you wanna add a list up top to see who puts in deposits and keep a running tally?
