for that kind of cash, put on TRD headers.

Know this one very well...
Its the heat shield on the crossover pipe. Toyota should be around $400 to replace the crossover pipe. Its basically got two layers. One of them rattles (tinny little rattle sound to it).
Still have this problem, but for $400, I'll live with it. Unless you rip it off (which I think Erik B did before, check the forum, its come up before). Mines still on there, still has this little tinny rattle noise. Somedays its worse than others, noticed the amount of rattle changes with the seasons as well (ie. cold/hot).

I ripped part of mine off (which was no easy task) and it still rattled. Then I saw that someone had suggested putting a hose clamp on there, so and I did, and that finally fixed it. ![[Smile]](images/icons/smile.gif) [ January 21, 2003, 12:49 PM: Message edited by: ErikB ]

I had mine replaced with the TRD headers (a pain as the gaskets keep leaking and on third set).
You could clamp it to stop rattle, but likely you may also have a leak behind it. That's why my started to rattle.
Personally, I'd find a good exhaust shop and have them fix it. Otherwise, find a wholesale parts dealer and get the part as cheap as possible. Don't go the TRD route ($750-900 for their headers). Then you have to worry of the condensate pump leaking on the Y pipe and cracking it...

erik b to erik b of oregon , how much of a pain in the butt was it to put on the clamp? how far did you have to tear things down ? any chance you can get a pic of it ? probably not an easy task though huh ?
so the trd headers arent worth it ? any after market companies making headers for the 3.4 ?

I added the clamp as per eriK and that fixed it for me as well. It was a little pain in the neck but it's worth it.

I used a large screwdriver adn bent the shield until it tightened up enough to stop vibrating.
