Weber carbs, air filters, and snorkels
      #215685 - 06/22/03 11:55 PM

Ok, i'm sure it's been discussed before, but I've been away for a long time and I can't find anything in the archives.

What does one do with a weber carb to keep the air clean, the water out, and pull hot air off the exhaust manifold during warmup?

i've spent the entire weekend at the junkyard and home depot bringing home parts and pieces that I can't get to go together without the use of duct tape.

Redline/Weber has these decent looking kits:

99010-301 Universal intake adapter for Weber DGV series carburetors
and/or
99010-357 Remote air filter snorkel kit

That look like they would do the job, but they dont look like they would fit my Weber carb:

what's this oval business on there? i dont see that in any pics of other Weber carbs. I sent Redline/Weber a pic of my carb so we'll see what they say. If anyone has some proven homegrown solutions to get a 2-3" round pipe off the Weber I'd love to hear them.

Upstream from that i've got a nice little air box from a Dodge Aries that has the exhaust heat valve that lets in hot air with a vacuum diaphragm. When the air heats up, the valve closes and lets in air from the normal intake.

From that point I can either send it into the stock fender hole, or rig up a snorkel.

One question about snorkels... has anyone ever heard of a half/shorty snorkel? just something that goes up a foot or so. Seems like it would be real easy to take a short section of PVC [Hillbilly] straight off the hood and put two 90 elbows so the opening is facing straight down at the hood to keep the rain/water out. I could do some flex tubing under the hood or something.

opinions/ideas appreciated.

thanks
dan

Talk about a 'lurker!' You've been registered for 3 1/2 years and only 15 posts...Wow. That's self-control! (Lot of help I am, huh?)
