Alarm issues...URGENT
      #1266824 - 07/12/12 02:18 PM

Right before I left last for vacation my alarm started chirping. Kinda like a smoke dector when the battery is low. I dissconnected the battery before I left and figured I'd deal with it when I got home. I have been having problems with my key fob and door locks and have been opening the door with the key. When I reconnected the battery I could not get the alarm to stop with the fob. So in haste and foolishly, I cut out the alarm speaker to just be done with it all together. I wasnt even thinking there would be safety measures to dissable the vehicle.

So now Im screwed, Cant start the truck. Is there any way to reset it?

Update: I reconnected the speaker. I am back to square one. I cant silence the alarm with the fob when I connect the battery.

Is this an aftermarket or dealer installed alarm?

I've see many alarm issues solved by replacing the vehicle battery. Dead or dying cells do strange things to alarm systems.

I was thinking the same about replacing the veh battery. I live in Phoenix and they dont seem to last longer than two years. I replaced both key fob batteries and they still wont unlock the doors.

This happened to me too. I assume you've checked the obvious like replacing the battery in the fob.

My case was a little extreme because I had to replace the alternator on the trail and I disconnected the battery to do it. Of course when I reconnected the battery the car wouldn't start and the fob was at home about 400 miles away. I ended up ripping out the entire alarm system. It was actually easier than I expected. There was only one wire under the dash that needed to be soldered back together before it would start.

Try this,

Put the key in the ignition and while holding the red LED down, on the left side of the dash, turn the key. The starter should engage and the alarm should shut off.

Note: The red LED won't press very far in, maybe 1-2 tenth of and inch and don't press to hard on it, it's a switch and may break.

And don't break that switch, it's not a part you can get anymore not that it would be hard to make a new one but still.
