I found a good deal on a set of Toyo tires, and the guy only wanted 40 bucks more if I took the rims. All he knew was that they were from a GMC 4x4 truck. I stuck one on the front of my '95, and they seem to fit. Are these things safe to run?
I bought a set of GenII SR wheels from Brandon a few years ago for my GenII LS, and I know he said those wheels used different lugs nuts than the wheels that came stock on my LS, even though the wheels are very similiar. So even if these GMC wheels can be run, which nuts should I use? Thanks guys. I hate messing with this, but I was able to get all four tires for less than 2 new ones, and money is pretty tight these days. If I can't/shouldn't use these wheels, I'm going to have the tires mounted on the SR wheels, and try to sell the GMC wheels on Craigslist.
Thanks in advance for the advice guys.
Keith

I'm suprised the center hole is big enough. I'd try to put them on the rear as on the Gen 2 the rear hub flange is like 1/4' larger diameter than the front hub.

Hadn't even thought of that. I just had the front end jacked up already, and the wheels were off. I'll try a rear.

Dave you sure about that? On a cursory look over, mine appear to both be the same size @ 108mm.

its all according to what year gmc it came off of. the newer style isn't large enough but the older rims will fit fine

From before about 87 from blazers and 'burbans, the center hole is big enough. I think the break date is 86 or 85 fir pickup. If the wheel has a conical chamfer on the lug nut hole, use nuts that match the chamfer. For most alloys, you use a nut with a collar - the lug nut hole will have a hole the size of the lug and the bottom of a counter sunk hole, with a flat rim around the hole for the shoulder of the nut to press against. Alloys don't use the tapered lugs because they put too much splitting force on the wheel, causing cracks in the wheel at the holes.

Oh the Chevy pickup hub!! I thought he was saying the mitsu hubs were different sizes between the front and rear axles.

Ray, Don't you have a Gen 2 axle in your SWB? When I put the Gen 2 LSD axle (thanks Grasscat) in mine the aftermarket alloys I had on my Gen 1 axle would not fit over the flange. I got some old 4 runner steelies and the same thing. The 4 runner wheels have 2 layers of metal. One layer I think is so you can clip the fancy hub cover on. The main layer is 4 1/2". I used a 4 1/2" angle grinder with new disc and ground out the one layer useing the larger layer as a guide. Problem solved. I have some really old white spoke steel that fit the Gen 2 ok. I'm glad I still had 2 of those in my junk pile with tires to put on the back till I got wheel that fit.

Hmmm perhaps there's a fraction of a mm difference? Supposed to both be 108mm. Toys w/ a 6x5.5 lug pattern have a 106mm minimum center bore.

Thanks for all the info guys. I didn't get a chance to mess with them yesterday, but the guy I bought them from texted me today and said they came off of a '79, so they should fit fine. The backspacing is VERY different than the Mitsu wheels, but they'll get me down the road for awhile, at least.
Thanks again!
