Misfire - Is it safe to drive with 3 cylinders?
      #1266485 - 07/03/12 08:50 PM

I lent my car to my brother and it broke down at my brother's place, 80 miles, 1 hour and a half away from my home. Cylinder 2 is misfiring pretty bad. Before I go into how to fix this, I've got to bring it home. Is it safe to drive with 3 cylinders? I can disconnect the wire harness to the cylinder 2 fuel injector to avoid damage to the catalytic converter. Can I reach the connector without removing the intake manifold?

Would be nice if you could figure out what is causing misfire before you move it. Don't know if you can unplug injector without removing top of intake manifold. It isn't that difficult to do. You may need to make a new gasket or use some silicone sealer LIGHTLY and wait for it to cure.

If you cut off injector, you would be keeping raw gas from getting to cats.

Should work but no guarantee. Make sure you watch temps. And...it will be gutless.

Tell us what you figure out.
