I made a lowball offer of 1200 for this boat thinking not a chance in hell, owners countered with 1500 and I jumped on it. I picked the boat up Saturday, and have been going through it ever since. Lots of stuff to do. The boat had been sitting for over 3 years it looks like. Vacuumed it all out and then started checking things over. Both trolling motor batteries were shot. One is missing a terminal Due to corrosion and the other wont hold a charge over 10.8 Volts, probably dead cell in that one. Too bad both Die Hard deep cycle dated 2008. Hooked trolling motor up and it works so thats good, I just need to get some terminal Lugs big enough for the cables.

The fuses to both livewell aerators, and one bilge pump were blown...check the pumps, they were frozen, freed and cleaned with WD40 and they whirred and purred like new.

Concentrating on this bilge area/batt box first then I'll move on once its squared away. Wires need tidied up gunk and rust cleaned out and bilge and aerators reinstalled with new clamps where needed.

I did idle the motor with ears on it in the driveway, Sounded good to my untrained ear..Hopefully I'll get it on the water this weekend for a run through. I wanted to make sure I had the trolling motor and bilge pumps going first..after that I'll shine it up all nice.

Good find Justice. Elbow grease and patience's are your best friends.
Pull your prop before you take it out to make sure there's no fishing line wrapped around it. The line tears out the oil seals, leading to water in the gear case.

Motor Trim work? The older OMC's had a few issues there especially when they get old. The relays get all corroded or the trim motor just quits.
If it still has the VRO oil injection system hooked up make sure it is working before taking it out. The only way to know for sure is a good amount of smoke when you crank it out of the water. Some people disable the pumps and mix gas. It's debatable if that is the best option, but at least you are sure if you mix it you will not burn up the motor because of that. The VRO pumps have been known to fail especially if one is 20 years old.
The other weak spot on those motors were power packs for the ignition system. Motor has two of them You will know when one dies. The motor barely runs or just quits period. No spark.
Put some good (Non-Ethanol if you can find it)gas in it and take it too the lake after you clean it up. Don't be afraid to open it up. Those motors were designed to be run fast and hard.

Thanks for the info, the trim works good. Lots of smoke when I idled it up in the driveway...I'll keep my eye out for spares of those two parts to keep around in the boat in a pinch. Theres a station over her with ethanol free..I'll take it there for fill up.

The problem with ethanol is not so much with the motor, but the fuel tank. It will absorb water and the tank will leak from pin holes.

It also hardens the fuel lines and makes them brittle. If it is left in the carbs over a long period of time without running it will condensate water from the fuel and oxidize the inside of the carb and harden the rubber components inside the carb as well. Does not take long either. Run the motor at least once a month enough to clear the carbs with new fuel.
I had/have a few jetski's over the years. Replaced a bunch of carbs over the years because of this ethanol.

QFT My Tractor HATES HATES HATES ethanol gas. After taking apart the carb, and cleaning it 20 times I started cutting the fuel supply off, and letting it burn all the gas out of the bowl it could, then draining the bowl to remove ALL gas out of it.

Got the live well pumps back in and the system works, looks like I need new control (flapper) valves though. They both leak Maybe there's a kit for them. The back corner were I've been buffing with some compound seems to be shining up nicely.

the windshields were both chipped, decided to cut them to size..

I'll have to see how these look on the boat. Need another deep cycle battery for the trolling motor and a few odds and ends and I'll get it in the water hopefully by the weekend.

Took it out today for a shake down run..Man, this boat handles nicely, the motor sounds great and gets the boat up on a plane quickly. It took me a bit to figure out the trim but was easy to do once I figured it out. A few bugs to still work out with the fuel setup. After a while it loses its prime, I think there may be a pin hole or something in the supply lines sucking in air into the system. Every once in a while the motor would stumble and after shutting it off and squeezing the priming bulb it wold work fine for a while then I would have to do it again...I could feel and hear bubbles in the the priming bulb. The boat has two fuel tanks been using the starboard tank, but when I switched the selector valve to the port side tank I was unable to coax any fuel to the motor. I think I'll replace all the hoses starting from the tank all the way to the motor...fuel filter and fuel water separator recently replaced, but maybe sediment in there..I'll do those too. Thoughts?
