Raider axles in a D50 ?
      #1264473 - 05/21/12 12:56 PM

Recently picked up a pretty nice (very solid by Mich standards) 89' D50 4x4 (2.6 auto) for my 16 year old. The 2.6 had a spun bearing so we transplanted my "spare" from a 87' Raider. Runs like a top now, but was dismayed as we were about to embark on our next mission (lsd rear) that the gear ratio is different than the Raider (4.22 vs 4.62)

Now I'm debating... swap the entire front and rear end assemblies, or just pull the LSD unit and put that in the D50. I like the idea of better gears since there is a plan to move up to 31"s'. At the same time, I dread the added amt of grunt work given there is nothing wrong with the axles in the truck. Thoughts? Is the work worth the gain? 90% commuter with weekend trail/off-road duty...

88' 2.6 Raider (organ donor)
89' 2.6 Power Ram [D50] Jr's wheels

The gears should swap over as long as you use axles from a 4 cyl Raider/Montero. I the LSD will also swap over with out any issues.

Not to be to technical with you but the "d" in d-50 designates a 2 wheel drive and "w" or "Power Ram" will designate a 4 wheel drive Dodge vehicle. This will help you when looking for parts on certain websites. Welcome to the wire.

just swap both front and rear third members in.you dont want to use the whole housing as the monty axle is a little norrower but the 4 cyl third members bolt right in.and dont worry i always call mine a d50 also.

The "W"-series only applies to the Dodge domestic product. The D50 was both 2- and 4-wd. The W-50 designation that you can find on the internet is only folks opinion, nicknames.

At least your 2.6l has the 4.22s and you weren't stuck with 3.9 like my turbo Pearl.

Hey dsmguy, My Power Ram 50 has the montero gears with ARB locker and the stock pumpkin front with the limited slip from a starion.

To use the limited slip from the starion I had to fab a spacer ring and get new bolts for the ring gear to fit on it. Then put on manual hubs.

I have 235 85 16 on it about 32" height and my speedo reads pretty good.
