Tranny swap, auto to manual
      #1262834 - 04/16/12 08:48 PM

Is this at all possible? I have a relative with a scrap yard and a sporty came in that has the 4x4 parts I need and sensors, and I noticed it was a manual. Id love to swap the trannys, would this be possible? What's needed to do the swap?

Thanks!

Is the front differential different? How about the transfer cases? If so I'll HAVE to go with the manual haha

I've got access to the entire car so that's not a problem

Just thinking out loud.
Need computer from 5 speed. Transmission and transfer case. Possibly crossmember. Clutch and brake pedal assembly. Clutch slave and master and steel fluid line. Brake master cylinder.
STARTER is different. Flywheel.
If I think of more, I'll add them.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Does the crank shaft in the automatic have a pilot hole for the pilot bearing?

I'd like to just keep my auto and get the front axle for now, are the front axles different?

I know back in the old days automatic equipped cars did not always have a pilot hole in the crank so I wasn't sure. Good thing to know.

i would assume that both front and rear axles are the same. they really have nothing to do with the choice of transmission, unless gearing is different, but i haven't seen that laid out anywhere.

So, i bought an 01 Kia Sportage. before i even drove it, i nick-named it The Goat.. it has been just like a goat.. stubbern at every corner...
