95 SR Crank & Cam sensor codes, sometimes starts then dies
      #1248078 - 07/09/11 06:50 PM

Hi, I have a 95 Montero SR 3.5 DOHC. I have had it since February and it has ran fine until a couple weeks ago. Didn't want to start but eventually did. Got where I was going and couldn't start it. Checked ECU codes and got 22 and 23(Crank and cam sensor)... Pulled everything off to get to crank sensor, replaced water pump and timing belt also while I was in there... got it all back together and it started right up. Started a second time and ran very smoothly, let it run for about 15 minutes to make sure I had a good charge. Turned it off and attempted to start it again... No go. It will start and barely run at ~500 RPM for a few seconds, sometimes will not start at all. I've looked around the net a lot, and this seems to be a common issue with Mitsubishis, but I'm not sure that I've found anybody with an answer. I'm thinkin it may be the ECU, as it seems to be an intermittent problem.... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

mxmikie, Was your Monty throwing both cam and crank sensor codes before you changed the hose? Also, mine has started a few times and ran normal but for the most part will either crank and crank or will kinda start then immediately die. I do smell fuel when it's cranking. If I decide to try another ECU, how much would you let yours go for?

Ok, I took out the ECU and inspected the board. Everything looks good... no burnt places, leaky caps, lifted traces, etc.
So, I'm thinking it's not the computer... Would that hose being bad throw those two codes from the ECU? I wouldn't think so, but then again, I'm no mechanic....

Ok, so it looks like the cam sensor is bad also... Only getting 5V, no pulse... ordered new sensor. We'll see I guess...
