Replacing crankshaft pulley bolt - 89 Montero V6
      #1247589 - 06/30/11 11:07 AM

I recently bought an 89 4-door Montero and was reading about the issues with the old crank pulley bolt. This one has the original bolt. So I called the dealer and got the latest version. I was planning on installing it this weekend and just noticed that there is also a replacement washer (MR994412). Do I need to buy that washer as well or can I just reuse what's on the truck now?
Thanks!

Co-sign on the washer. It is thick and has a concave shape to it, which I believe when compressed by the torque on the bolt, distributes pressure to the face of the pulley. Probably a real good Idea to replace. The 2nd replacent always came with a washer.

Thanks for the replies guys. I guess it's another trip to the dealer. Only one in Sacramento and very overpriced.

OEM repalcement part cost is the biggest down side to owning any Mitsubishi, from my experience. I really like the Montero though, but OUCH when it comes to dealer parts. $$$

Yeah, $20 for the bolt and... $8 for a washer!

The washer is called a belleville washer, and it is shaped that way to put a spring tension on the pulley.

Picked up the fancy washer the other day from the dealer. It is thick (9 mm) but definitely not a belleville (conical) washer. It is completely flat. Came in a bag with part number MR994412.
