Fuel Tank Armor
      #1245099 - 05/19/11 09:31 PM

Found some treadplate, decided to make something to protect my dented fuel tank. with directions, instructions and tempates here I will say try and get the thickness' they describe, had to do a lot of massaging (read that as grinding, trimming and drilling) to make the thicker stuff work.It turned out pretty stout anyway. I just hope the welding Gestapo doesn't tear me up!

I haven't met the welding G-men, but...

I liked seeing a leaf spring truck being worked on!

Im glad yours was at least salvagable! I ended up with one so rusted out I had to get a Summit Racing fuel cell and mount it in the back of the truck!
As you probably already found out, you cant get a NEW fuel tank for these anywhere.
Nice work bro.

Nice looking half cap! Do you have a soft top for it or do you just remount the rear half in bad weather?

I gotta cage the truck for the safety of the kids and I want everyone in 4 points.

The roof has been cut up and sent for scrap metal. Once i make my roll cage ill make a soft top for it. My aunt owns a boat top buisness and i worked there for a few years, im fairly confident it will turn out pretty good. Im not taking it out on any serious runs until i make the roll cage. Im not in this sport to kill myself/anyone else.

Wow!

Nice job.
That looks vaguely familiar...

Good to see someone has made one from those plans that I made.

Regarding fuel tanks, I should have a beautiful one in perfect condition that will be looking for a new home next month. But storage/shipping of used fuel tanks does present a problem... Any ideas?

I always wanted one of those. If I ever get another montero/Raider I will try harder to get it before tank damage.

Russell, I'm sure you don't remember but I got an overdrive wiring harness from you a few years ago for this truck. And I actually have 3 leaf spring trucks I'm woking with; This is the newest one. 88 SWB, 2.6, 5spd needs a motor that i already got from Eli, [image][/image] the Mudraider [image][/image] And the biggest piece of work; [image][/image] putting the white ones body on this leafspring chassis [image][/image] [image][/image]
