Okay, so I've read about the Weber 32/36 and 38/38 replacement carbs for the 2.6L motor. Are there any other replacement carbs available out there, like from Holley, that are less expensive? If so, what are the part numbers and sources?
I've heard the 38/38 is the better choice as far as the Weber goes, to get more oomph out of the engine, whereas the 32/26 is a very minor improvement over the stock Mikuni?
I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to turbo my Monty and leave it carbed, or go with EFI. For ease of installation, I'm leaning towards a carbed setup, but will have to replace the stock Mikuni with something that can take the boost (7 psi, give or take). I really don't want to spend $450 for a Weber 38/38, then another $200 for the part that bolts to the top of the Weber carb that the turbo piping feeds into. I can probably get the EFI parts I need for less than half of that, but really don't want to deal with the headache of figuring out all the wiring and additional sensors, higher pressure fuel pump, etc.
So with all that being said, and knowing this replacement carb will be boosted, what's the general consensus regarding a good replacement carb that won't drain my bank account, keeping in mind I still have to get the part that bolts to the carb for the turbo piping to feed into?

Did a search on Amazon.com, and found a Weber 32/36 carb kit for the 2.6L, at $290, which includes an air filter. That's certainly a better deal than $450 for a 38/38, but will a 32/36 work in a turbo setup?
Haven't had any luck at all finding a comparable Holley carb...

I don't think holley makes a carb for us, but they do make a universal TBI unit. I have not heard good things about it though. the 32\36 is a big improvement over a failing stock carb and a fair bit cheeper than the rebuilt mukini. IMO, anything bigger than the 32\36 will be overkill unless you mod your engine. If you mod your engine, then you need to figure out how much carb you need based off of the mods.

Zark - thanks for the feedback. I've heard that a 32/36 is a BIG improvement over the stock Mikuni, as far as daily driveability goes. My Monty seems to run out of steam just above 3000 rpms, doesn't do any good to mash the pedal, it just doesn't go any faster unless I shift gears once it's above 3000 rpms.
I talked with someone at Top End Performance in Hollywood (CA) when I was back home on vacation, and he pretty much said if I was going to turbo my Monty, getting a 32/36 was going to be a waste of money, and I should get the 38/38. There's not a big price difference between a 32/36 and 38/38 from TEP ($420 versus $460), but I can get a 32/36 off Amazon.com for under $300.
TEP also has the "carb bonnet" ($200), the piece that bolts to the top of their 38/38 carb, and the turbo inlet hose/piping connects to it via a neck. I'm tempted to get the 32/36 off Amazon, just to improve the daily driveability. And if TEP makes a carb bonnet to fit a 32/36, just use that carb for the rest of the turbo setup.
The turbo setup is going to be a while, because I still have to get gaskets for the t-stat housing, water pump, timing cover; probably get a new timing chain and accessory belts, since they'll be readily accessible when installing the covers with the turbo water/oil fittings; new turbo oil feed line; down pipe at the back of the turbo; etc.
So I still have a few parts to get before I can tackle the turbo install. A 32/36 kit off Amazon.com might be the next thing on my shopping list, just so the daily driveability is better than what I have now. Hopefully my mpg will be a little better than the 14-15 mpg I've been getting with this tired carb. I downloaded the Montero service manual from a fellow poster on here, but the carb removal section is pretty skimpy. I'm hoping once I remove the air cleaner housing, it'll become fairly obvious what's involved with replacing the stock carb with something else. I'm used to 4-barrel carbs from muscle cars, and looking at all those hoses connected to the stock 2-barrel carb and the air cleaner housing will certainly be a challenge to deal with.

whichever weber you go with, make sure the linkage is on the correct side. I'm running a dgev which needs to be run backwards and have the trottle cable run below vs on top like stock. the dFev is supposed to be more like the stock setup. do your research as there is not as much aftermarket parts support for the F vs the G. I have plenty of pull through the rpms with this carb on level ground, but due to my oversized tires, definately have some trouble on long hills. A few more mods and I should be able to compinsate for that:)

I think I have bigger tires, at 265/70-16, so if you're having issues with going up hills, I'll probably have the same. Did you have to rejet at all, or did your 32/36 run like it's supposed to right out of the box? Here's the link to the source I'll probably use if I decide to get a 32/36 dfev carb:

How long have you been running your 32/36? In your opinion, do you think a 32/36 could handle 6-7 psi of boost? I would imagine a StarQuest turbo setup on your rig should solve the problem of loosing steam going up hills with the oversize tires?

I pull western PA/NY hills turning 33s on my 87 without any trouble, usually in fifth still. FWIW...

From your sig line, your 87 has the intercooled turbo setup, correct? Yours has EFI, if I'm not mistaken? Did you go with any kind of water injection, or just intercooled?
I'm not looking to light up the tires or anything like that, I'd just like to get 30 or so more hp in a reliable, daily driver kind of way. I think the 32/36 carb will give me the daily driveability I'm looking for, and if I can hook up the StarQuest intercooled turbo to it, that should give me the extra hp and torque I want.
