Found an 87 Montero
      #1204413 - 03/19/10 10:44 PM

I was told $700, but it needs a gas tank, an exhaust manifold, and some weird bodywork! What should I offer? [image][/image] [image][/image] The interior is awesome. You can even see a factory cassette from Mitsu with a picture of the Montero on it. I didn't listen to it. [image][/image] [image][/image] Now here's where the weird bodywork comes in- [image][/image] [image][/image] Did I mention the the speedo shows 98,000 miles. It runs, is loud, and you can't put much gas in it. I know it would be a decent chunk of $ to replace the exhaust and the fuel tank. He said $700, I'm thinking $475, maybe $500 tops. Your opinions please!

Bad rust
Rusted tank
bald granny tires
4cyl
unknown other rust

I would offer him current scrap costs. My friend is selling my other friend his V6 5speed for $500. So I wouldn't even look at that POS.

I'd offer them to pay me $200 to take that problem off their hands.

I replaced a gas tank with one I bought from Russell, for $50, as I recall. Easy enough.

Exhaust? Fab one up--flex pipe and bailing wire. Muffler? "I don't need no stinking muffler."

Rust? Now there you might have a problem. Looks like it might make a fair-weather beater.

Seriously, it might make a good parts truck, but $700 is a bit much for that.

Scary A-pillar, but are those bouncy seats or flip seats? It's a parts truck for sure.

I'm in the $200, or less, crowd for this poor Montero. Buy it and strip the good parts. Rust like that in the A-pillar is probably an indicator of BAD structural problems.

I'm getting another 2-door parts car this month with a much better body...it's red, too. Maybe that's in the cards as a 2-into-1 project?

Well Frank, I'd say buy as a parts truck, take what you want, and sell the rest. You know I'm looking for an auto tranny and that one has everything. We can work something out. My sister in law lives up your way, I can kill two birds by visiting her and picking up the whole setup for a tranny swap. I'll throw a bottle of hot sauce in with the deal
