what do you mean whats the vin ? parts don't have vin's just part #'s, do you want the part # for a LSD to fit a 2001 ? or the part # for the whole assemy ? don't think you can get a whole assemy, they like selling parts

I think he means what car vin number includes that option stock. Like a certain number usually describes motor size, axle size, country of manufacture.

Unfortionatly, at least in the kia manual, in the vin breakdown it doesn't show a designation for lsd or not. I know my ford did though. Maybe have to ask dealer.

Sorry, that was from repair manual for 1998-99 models.

Agreed. But the dealer should be able to look up the part number for a LSD without having to have a VIN. My diff fried around Chicago last year on my way out to Colorado. Had to get it to a dealer, who amazingly was open on a Saturday. Since I had to replace it anyway, I had them put the LSD into it instead of the open diff. They looked up the parts no problem. Gotta say it's much improved over the open diff.

Made it up a hill at a local wheeling place that I couldn't make it up before the LSD, and helped pull a Liberty up after me.

Also, when the roads were wet or slick, often times when taking a corner in 2wd from a standstill I would go nowhere as one of the rear tires would just break free and spin. Doesn't have that problem now. Now if I give it too much gas on the corner from a standstill , I fishtail (intentionally most times!)

Definitely thinking about sourcing and putting a Torsen in the front now!

So when you lift your rear and spin a wheel, do they both go the same direction?

Mine don't! But when i'm in the dirt, rain or snow it posi's all the time?? hardly ever get a one wheel'r??

According to the stealership ... I don't have LSD (posi)

Used to get 1-wheelers all the time at certain corners where the pavement was slick in the rain. Never get them now that I have the posi. I haven't tried raising the rear to see about the directional spin. Before I had to get it replaced, I spent a lot of time on car-part.com to try to find a posi at a relatively nearby junkyard. What I found out was that even when they list them as posi, they aren't. They don't bother to check them. I would call the place that listed a posi and ask for the vehicle VIN, then call Kia to see if it was posi, and it wasn't.

At one point, I called a place and asked them to verify a posi for me becauue they didn't have the VIN. They claimed it was posi, and I drove an hour to get it, but the wheels spun in opposite directions, so I passed on it.

Limited slip differentials still have a differential in them. So when you break the clutches loose tires will spin oposite. The clutches kick in and try to limit the differential action in low traction, but it's not posi.,or a locker which would be awsome. My friend says he's still gonna just weld the front diff on his ford like dave.
