Heard a strange noise on a customers Pajero.
Pulled the head and this is the result.
Cyl #4 had a ton of rubber debris in it.
Turned out that the turbo was only working at 10-15%.
Had the turbo rebuilt.
Plugged it all back together and cranked her over.
The extra 85% forced air from the turbo blew the deteriorating rubber inside the intercooler pipes right through in the chamber.
Customer is lucky. Everything is still good aside from the h gasket.

Crazy! I've had a lot of issues with old rubber vac and fuel lines in my other vehicles lately.

I betcha that is one of those little rubber coupler grommets from the intercooler pipe connections. I had a friend who sucked one up in his Eagle Talon and it destroyed his turbo.

I gotta an offtopic story about sucking stuff thru. My dad and I brought home an old Case 830 tractor to fix up a lil bit and use. Before we loaded it up and took it home, we stuffed rags in the intake b/c the oil breather was missing. Few days later were playing with it, fire it up couple seconds running, we see blue shop rags that previously were in the intake shoot up and out of the muffler that was pretty comical

Good reason to upgrade to solid pipes and new silicone couplers!

I agree, I have been thinking about solid tubes and silicone couplers for a while. Anyone know where you can get them cause I was just gonna get a muffler shop to bend me some pipe.

I had bought some mandrel bent U's from Mopac, and just cut/welded them to fit with some silicon couplers and T-bolt clams I bought from Traction.

How are they finished? Once I get my garage set up and a welder that may be an option.

they are just steel pipes...I know aluminum would be a prime choice but welding aluminum isn't an option for me...and were not building race cars so having the most efficient intercooler pipes isn't really necessary.
