My sportage has developed the infamous oil cooler housing leak. Kia wants 255 in labor to change it plus parts. I bought the new housing and replacement o-rings from Kia and want to do it myself.
So i'm wondering if anyone has done it and could maybe throw up a quick diy? It looks like a pain to change. I'd like to know what to remove, etc, to get to it easily, and what tools will be necessary.
I checked the Kia online manual and it was really general about removing it. It literally says to remove this bolt and that bolt and this nut.... No help at all.
Hopefully I can find some help on here! Thanks in advance!

what is the year of your sporty ? and what part of the on-line kia tech did you not understand ? looks like it is pretty much straight forward. or at least it is for my 2001

Section 11 of the FSM seems detailed enough on removal/installation. If the seal between the oil cooler and the lower mount is leaking it looks fairly easy. If it's the seal between the lower mount and the block then it get's more complicated. Send me an e-mail at mjats@juno.com and I'll forward to you that section of the FSM.

Your 2001 doesn't have an oil cooler. It was eliminated starting in 2000.

Mine is a 2000 and has an oil cooler.
It is leaking from the adapter plate to the block, and also the actual cooler is leaking (no replaceable seals, just the cooler itself  ).
As the manual is straight forward, it seems to skip HOW to get the bolts/nuts. It seems as if the car/motor was built around the oil filter area. Everything is in the way. From on top, the intake manifold, vaccuum box, and ac compressor surround it. From below, the starter, subframe, and motor mount surround it.
I did find out I needed a 30mm socket to remove the nut under the oil filter. So i went and got that today.

I stand corrected. It was 2001 that it was eliminated.
