A new angle...Which way does the blower fan spin?
      #1106303 - 07/10/08 05:03 PM

O.K. I'm going to risk my pride and put this to the forum. I just installed a new blower motor to my Raider and I get almost no wind coming out my vents. The motor works very well at all four speeds. I put in a Siemen's motor that was spec'd out for the truck. I had to cut the plug off from the wires coming from the truck and solder them to the motor. I know it's possible, heck it's probable that I wired it backwards. Which way is the squirrel fan supposed to turn? I have it spinning so that if it was held in your hand and put to some dirt or sand upright it would be digging in. I'd like some feedback before I switch the wires around. As always...thanks everybody.

Is it possible to install the cage upside down??

The motor will certainly run in reverse if the leads are swapped.

It's not possible to install the cage upside down. It's conical.

If the air inlet to the fan is in the center, the flaps on the outer rim should slope away from the direction of rotation to push air away from the center as it spins. Did the fan motor come with a wiring diagram?

I think I get what you are saying. No, there was no wiring diagram. I have figured out a better way for this. If somebody could unhook the latches on their glove box and let it hang (empty it first), then set their vent lever to recirculate (closed ventilation), they will be able to look through the glove box area and see their fan. Turn it on and tell me if it spins clockwise or counter-clockwise. Hope someone can check into this for me. Thanks again people.

Take your fan back out and look on the cage for a direction arrow. Most that I've seen are for CW rotation. The blades in the cage point away from the rotation direction.

If anybody ever asks again the direction of the fan is clockwise as viewed through the glove-box.
