I have done a lot of searching this morning and have found a ton of info. I guess I am just a dumb when it comes to turbo though cause most of what I read makes no since to me.
What I do know is that a turbo works off of the exhaust to spin a turbine which is routed to the intake system and it forces more air into the intake system which in turn calls for more fuel and causes more detionation equalling more power produced. And also....well nevermind thats about all I know. 
What I don't know is all the technical dynamics of making an efficent turbo system work.
I have thought about putting a very conservative turbo on the 2.6 in my P'up. All I'm looking for is a few more ponys to get power-to-weight ratio up a bit. My P'up is a Daily driver so dependability and efficientcy is key here.
I have a neighbor that I helped pull a Chrysler 2.5 factory turbo engine out of his Caravan. He was going to put the engine in a car but that fell through so I may be able to pick up all of his turbo parts if I can make them work on a 2.6. His motor however has a forged crank and rods and he was running anywhere from 9-16lbs of boost. No where near what I want.
Anyway could some turbo savy pepole dumb-it-down for me and help me understand what it is I need to do to turbo my 2.6? In the mean time I'm gonna hit the WWW and learn a bit more.

search impulse turbo. houlster did a lot of turbo and supercharger stuff on his amigo before he swapped out his 2.6.

Ok Chad, you had to ask didn’t you!
Maybe you just need to come down here and spend a day or two in my shop.
Here's what mine looks like. It's an Isuzu 4 cylinder 4ZE1 2.3 Liter Intercooled Turbo Gas 4ZE1 motor for my 89 Trooper.
I can't find my pictures of the left side of the engine that shows the turbo. It's under the intercooler that is on top of the engine. I'll guess I'd better get some more of the other side before I stick it in the truck for the last time. Cause it's really hidden in there.
Jerry and I built this about 3 years ago. It has a lot of secret stuff in it that I won’t disclose here, but it is complete and ready to run. It’s for Melissa’s truck. Which is under construction as I type?
Here it is in the Trooper for a fitment for the intercooler hood vent.
This engine is not a 2.6 though. It’s a 2.3L with a 2.6 L head and Fuel injection. This way we can keep the boost down and hopefully keep the detonation at bay with just a pop off valve.
The turbo and the exhaust manifold are off a 1.8L Isuzu car. Kind of small for a 2.3 L but with it should all balance out.
Our best guess for the power output should be around 260 to 300 horses.
Since this will be driven by the wife we didn’t want to build a rocket ship she couldn’t control. It will have a 4L30 4 speed behind it.
So, I guess to answer your question. Yes, you can turbo an Isuzu 4ZE1. Either like Dan did in his Arizona based Frankenstein Shop, or like I did here in Texas in the “Ridiculous Equipment Skunk Works”!

That didn't tell me much about bolting a 60* tranny to a 4ZE1 I have never messed with auto trannies; but it would appear that the 4L30E has a removal bell. I assume the rare bellhousing you make reference to is the connecting link in the process? Does it look like this... because if it does I have one too 
I know the above enables you to attach a few AW variants to the 2.6. I'm keeping it around for the potential to go AW4 + D300 at some point.

Sean, I can't find any decent pictures of the 4L30 I have to show you. They must have been in my other computer that crashed.
Tell you what. I'll get take more and send them to you.
Might even bolt the 2.3 up to it to prove I'm not smoking something.  I need to move that engine over to the other frame anyway. May as well store the tranny behind while I'm at it.
Gimme a day or two.

Curtis, Is there a reason you're not going with the AW auto tranny? With Jerry's help, I'm planning on using the turbo from a 2.0 Impulse on my 2.6 with the AW auto. I have an 89 Trooper project, as well. I thought the AW was the better trans. I'd appreciate hearing your reasoning. Thx. Leland
