montero , 1990 , 3.0 oil leak

hi all , new to the list and a new owner of a 1990 montero 2 door 3.0. 90,000 miles
I just opened the timming chest to put in a new timming belt and its packed from top to bottom with oil . cant tell where its comming from . any weak spots prone to leaks in this area. the valve covers are leaking but dont think this mess could of been comming from their. any ideas ?? thanks rick

x2 what Frank said. Also check the crank seal. That's where mine was leaking from for so long. If you replace it, make sure to pack the back side of the seal with grease and be real careful going back on with it. The inner lip can flip back onto itself and pop the spring off.
