I wanted to replace my plugs and wires. I was able to replace the spark plugs but I was not familiar with removing the "bar" that evidently contains the spark plug wires and disconnecting the plug at the end of the bar. Is there some sort of trick to releasing that plug and once released is it relatively easy to open the bar to change the wires?

It's a clamshell. Flashlight and a small flatblade screwdriver is all you need. If you break the tabs just zip tie it shut.
Remember only replace ONE plug wire at a time so you don't get them all mixed up. Been there, done that, it sucks. Dielectric grease is good for keeping water out of your plug wires, pack the ends of the plug wires with it. The sparkplug at the back of the motor is a bit tricky, a wobble extension or universal joint will help. A bit of copper antisieze on the plug threads will help with removing them next time. If you have compressed air blow out the dirt around the base of the plugs before you remove them. Of course you'll need shop rags and beer but I don't have to remind you about that!
Good luck.

WHOA STOP DON"T TRY. that dont come apart that is the coil system. it has small individual coils on it and it is quite expensive to replace. now if you change the plugs and it still need improvement then you may want to replace the entire assy. but not till then.
I would love to get my hands on the wiring, comp, and engine from one of those to throw in my 89, they are great as far as maint. goes. there is no plug wires,no distributor, and leaves a cleaner looking engine bay. [image] [/image] they started putting those on in 2000 and at auto zone they are about 130 bucks

If it ain't running bad and has over 50K on the plugs I'd pull one plug and check the gap.. If it needed regapping I'd pull them all and regap them and reinstall.. Now if it is running badly that is a different story.. Big Jim

Plugs, wires, and rotor cap are a good place to start, and fairly cheap, thermostat is pretty cheap. Don't forget to check the plug o-rings when changing fluids...fluids are just common sense...change them regularly. Bad things WILL happen if you don't.
Ha...you're EFI... I did not even see that.....So don't worry about the rotor cap. ...I'm retarded.

it is a 2000 modle so it dont have wires, dist or a regular coil . all it has is plugs and the coil rail. I agree with BJ,if its not broke dont fix it. However ifi t is go all the cheap routs before replacing that rail. as i stated before they are expensive. also replace the fuel filter(if external i cant remember) clean the throttle body with spray carb cleaner, those type things. as stated fluids should be checked if dirty or due replace them.
