Have the original carb. on 2.6L, was wondering what options I have to increase performance....choke doesn't always open fully, sluggish idling for first few minutes of cold start....bogs down on hills rather than picking up. Any help....rebuild or aftermarket carbs??

check ebay for the weber conversion kit, will fix all your problems but isnt real emissions legal :)

Why is this not emissions legal?? Does the install require any special knowledge or just follow the directions?

The legality would depend primarily on which state you live in. In Ca. we can't do anything to alter the installed emissions on a vehicle. When I had my 2.6 I lived in a county/area that didn't require smog inspections after the initial issuance. Having my own shop and personel let me play however I liked. Now, everything has to conform and there are no CARB (Air Resources Board) approved items I can use. Some states don't care what you do. To put the Weber on some of the emissions related systems have to be changed and/or, abandoned. If you have annual or semi-annual smog inspections where they verify equipment you either have to conform or put it back to stock for every recertification process.
Is it a hard install - no - not if you have been doing your own work from time to time and are saavy. There's a huge number of people that can help on this board.

Just to throw in my two cents I had similar problems. Truck was hard to start and wouldn't want to stay running very well. Idle was weak, low power, etc....place claimed the carb was rebuilt but I troubleshot everything to the carb being the problem. Called up Weber and ordered up the 32/34 (I believe) and installed that about a month ago, although I haven't driven it more than 10miles since its still being finished it runs worlds better. The carb sounds a lot better! You'll find some people here that think the world of the Mikuni from PMs I got, and quite a few that don't care for the Webers, but personally I think they're 100times better. More simple design, though you do disconnect a lot of the emissions and such to install it, I'm in Iowa so it doesn't much matter here. Goodluck on the decision. If you plan on keeping the vehicle any reasonable amount of time just skip ebay (So you're not dicking around w/ used equipment or worrying about it working) and just go thru Redline Weber and order up the carb kit. You get everything exactly as you need and great directions. I've never worked on a carb before and I got it all tuned and everything!

Thanks, for the help. I am looking into seriously. I'll post back with any questions later. I am in VA, and am not sure of the emissions laws? I know they don't usually test it at inspection time.
