Neutral Safety switch - 88 YJ automatic
      #1037326 - 09/11/07 06:58 PM

The connnection that occurs between the automatic transmission neutral safety switch and the 3 wire female plug which fits over the switch is faulty.

The n/s/s has 3 round pegs protruding outward at the male end.
The plug which fits over the 3 pegs contains 3 female rectangular slots.
Issue : round peg vs. square hole .

I remember having problems with this connection years ago. I purchased 3 different brand Neutral Safety switches . They were assorted lengths as they threaded inward into the transmission. Two of the three did not work. I did my best to make the connection work for several years by using a switch from the dealer . I never before noticed this issue. Time to do it correctly , as I recently lost the grounding function associated with this wire connection which originates at the starter relay box.

What is the correct style ? source? part number? I believe that I need a style with 3 male rectangular pegs.
The current N/S/S was from dealer and seems inappropriate.

Please note that tranny was rebuilt ?? replaced ?? at approx 60,000 miles ago in 1994. Perhaps that might account for the apparent lack of havingan easy fit. I don't know.
Any suggestions out there?
