Small project this week but its progress. I put in a set of Hella Conversion headlamps. I almost went with the crappy Ebay ones but glad I didn't now.

These things kick compared to the Sylvania Silver Starr conventional lights..Good mod in my opinion that should be on all Gen 1's.

Not so long ago. I sold those light for a living as well as other stuff. They are quite an improvement over most any lights you can buy. I think they still offer sealed beams upgrades too?!

Those lights you got were always a possible illegal upgrade here in California. It would depend on the bulb. 55/65 i think is the legal one. but guys would buy 90/100 bulbs and go and blind people as they drive.I sold even higher wattage bulbs than that too!

Those Hellas are quite durable Justice. You made an excellent choice.

I bought the same bulb upgrade from Dan Stern - whole kit incl relays and everything. He suggested and did some prevous forum members that the OE wiring would not hold up well to the H4/E-code Hella/Valeo bulb conversion. Hence the OE wiring would be used solely to activate a relay directly voltage direct from the battery to the new bulbs on newer & heavier wiring.

Still hadnt completed my switch over on the 89LS, suspension and brakes first! would be interested to read others thoughts on using the OE wiring

I ran mine on OE wiring in both rigs with no problems whatsoever. I did not change the wattage of the bulbs, however, and could see potentially overloading the existing wiring quickly had I changed out the "stock" Hella bulbs.

Today I put some synthetic line on the winch today.

Took the cable off.

This is the shittybuilt ne 10K rope. It has 2 protective sleeves. One that goes over the first wrap around the drum to protect from heat and another out the hook end for protection from abrasion during pulls.

Been prepping the rig for the Dusy trip coming up this week. I installed the Masterflow compressor that I tool out of my old 95. Yesterday I dropped the diff and today took the ARB airlocker out of the Gen 2 housing and installed it in the 89 housing. Got backlash set right at .005 on the first try..

Tested to 100 PSI and no leaks.

Got the diff bolted back in and the passengers side suspension back together..tomorrow, re-assemble the drivers side axle and related parts and done..whew...

ehhh, maybe once I get it sorted a little better, I kinda just threw it together in order to get it in there before I leave to the Dusy trip. It dont leak though, and that's half the battle..

hi justice, i have been looking on the net for some time now for some that has done a diff swap from a later model ie.. gen 2. and i came across your build thread, i just wanted to ask you if you had any problems at all with the swap or was it pretty strait forward? i have a 89 gen 1 V6 auto LWB and my diff is cracked so i want to swap it out but i can only find a gen 2 diff. i have heard they are wider than the gen 1 but am unsure. your help would be awsome.

regards from australia,

Mick

sorry for dbl post, but i found your diff swap thread and read all about it. doesn't look that hard to do and the extra 1 1/2" wide track is not that noticeable either.

your truck looks awesome by the way, gave me a few ideas to work with. i love the montero's/pajero's(aus model) they are a better 4wheeler than alot of people think.

Mick,

Welcome to the wire. No problem with the diff swap its a bolt in swap. Scroll through this entire thread and there's a link on one of the pages to a detailed write up on the diff swap. this should get you the info you need.
