Timing belt change interval?
      #971151 - 02/12/07 12:41 PM

My owner's manual only shows an interval (60K) for "Schedule A", which doesn't fit my truck. I more of a Schedule B driver. Schedule B only says to "inspect" the drive belts at 60K. No replacement mentioned.

Would this mean that I could go 100K or more, according tot he manufacturer? Or am I missing something.

I think that the original owner went 90K+ before the first belt replacement.

Thanks

If not at 60K, 90K to be safe.

Thanks. I figured that, but I wondered what Toyota's Schedule B really means.

Not that I'd recommend it but when I bought mine at 130K the belt hadn't ever been changed. Surprisingly the belt didn't look that bad.

i ran mine to about 140K before i changed it, and it looked fine. perhaps southern weather is easier on them.

I have 149,000 on mine. It's time to change it I think.

I have 106K on mine and am in the process of changing it.
The hold up is that I am making a tool to hold the crankshaft pulley. The strap wrench that I used on my montero broke when I tried to hold the crank on the toyota. The crankshaft bolt is torqued to 184ft lbs.

I bought mine with 125k miles and the belt had not been changed, I changed it ASAP and it was very cracked. Scared me to think if I didn't change it. I also found 2 broken off ring teeth from the front ring and pinion when I changed the diff oil. It has worked just fine so far moderate off-road use. I'm hoping that both teeth were not right next to eachother.

I've got a 99 Tacoma, and just changed the original chain and water pump at 173K. Truck is much quieter now, so it makes me wonder how many miles were actually left on them.
