4.0 ltr in my Raider
      #972324 - 02/15/07 12:13 PM

Has anyone ever put a 4.0ltr ford engine in a Raider.
O.K. here's the scoop, I'm set on doing an engine swap in my 88 Raider. My initial intentions were to put the 4.3 chev like I've seen others do before. However, I'v had this 94 Exploder fall into my lap so I figured why not? I realize that the A4LD A/T is the weak link in the equation but does anyone have any input/insight into this. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks, Mark

That engine has less power than a healthy 3.0 Mitsu.
Have you ever towed with a 4.0 Ranger or Exploder?
But hey, after all the work to do the swap you will probably need to be towed.

Well that being said how about a 2.8 s-10 engine I have on hand to go in mine if I choose. Parts are cheaper I am sure.

2.8 = MAYBE if you could get a 2.8 drive train, and then get the 3.4 out of a camaro, and make it run with all the SFI stuff. Then it would be cool.

How many engine swaps have you done before? Whatever you think it will take multiply by 10 in both money and effort

I've done about 2 at the shop I work at and another one at home but that was all stock stuff never a retro fit. I realize the time and money factor thats not my query, its the driveline of choice I'm concerned about. You see the exploder I got was a freebie. The driveline is solid but the rest of it is pretty rough.

Hey Darth,
I looked at that before I picked the Chevy 4.3. Nothing on the Ford was on the correct side for the swap. Everything was backwards. Exhaust, radiator hoses, pwr steering, etc.
They also had a problem with the timing belts cover. I wanted a tranny(700r4) that could be modified and a T case with a neutral.
Whatever you do, you will need the whole set of engine/tranny/Tcase for the swap.
Good luck my friend.
