winches? money vs reliability
      #805456 - 11/07/05 11:17 PM

Whether it is money, reliability, or just a name. I need to buy a winch for the 83 toy. I know everyone has their opinions but I want the real deal. Which winch would you buy (new)? 8000-9000 lb range, intergrated or non?
Warn, Ramsey, Milemarker, or Superwinch

guess that I need to ask what do you want the winch to do?
just save your butt? pull you out really fast? do you care about speed?
I have the mile marker and it is slow but works fine.

I want a moderate speed. I believe the Milemarker is too slow for my taste. I am willing to pay a little more for speed. I have an 83 pickup so I don't have that much weight. I do want a 9K winch though. I am catering to the Superlift EPi series. For the price the performance numbers look good, but I have never purchased a winch before either.

I have been using my Ramsey Pro 6000 for about 10 years, never a problem. I like it but my next winch will be a Warn XP9000. It is also available in an intergrated version but that won't fit my bumper. XP is for extreme performance.

I bought a used warn 8274 about 5 years ago for $400. It's still going strong and it's on the third truck.
