Trooper wiring gurus needed
      #773167 - 08/24/05 05:19 PM

Hello all -- I've been busy converting my 88 Trooper to diesel (details and links here: 4x4 wire thread ) and I'm currently involved in the wiring. I've decided to remove all the unnecessary wiring to clean the engine bay up and simplify the vehicle. I am wondering about a couple of things:

1) Does the ECU control anything other than engine management? As in, can I remove the ECU and harness and not affect any other subsystems?

2) What is the best source for a comprehensive wiring diagram for this vehicle? I've got the Haynes manual already.

Thanks.

I should add that I've found a used 91 Trooper electrical factory manual - is this sufficiently similar to the 1988 that I could use it?

It should be. I believe the 88-91 should be the same. 87 Prior is different if I am not mistaken. Someone chime in and correct me if I am wrong...

Thanks for the diagrams. For everyone who has only the Haynes manual, grab these as they're worlds better.
I still went ahead and ordered the ETM for the 1988 model, but these got me much farther than I would have gotten with only the Haynes.
