Yea you dont want to use a HVLP gun.. too small-get plugged. Perhaps a wagner airless or somethin similar. If it has plastic inerds I wouldnt use it cuz youll need thinner to clean it out. Thinner will eat away (melt) plastic. What do the destructions (instructions) say on the can? or web site? I would imagine you could use a regular gun if you changed nozzels to larger bore and thinned it down. The only thing is that it will take a few coats. The roller or brush method will insure a thick coat with little fuss- just toss the roller and done. The right gun will cost about 100 bucks and since its a one time thing... roll it brother.
LOL if I was spraying and had some left over Id spray the frame and anything else I could see. Also with spraying dont forget about all the particulates that will be in the air- cover everything, well ventilated and wear a respirator. I believe there is an addative like sand that you can add to it too. Things wont slide around and it will make it a little thicker too.

POR-15 has something called a Tie-Coat Primer which will let you paint this over(properly prepped paint)and then use any type of top coat you want.If you have it down to bare metal you have to use thier metal ready prep( which is a metal etching solution. Good Luck.. Dan

Brownie Points in a Resto project oh boy. Thats gonna be exciting. We are gonna have to hear how its going man. Resto's are fun. One of my friends has a Jeep frame with a huge suspension system. He also has an AMC 304, and a high performance chevy 350. As well as a Cj-7. His DD is a frame up rebuild cj-5 with 304. He got everything minus the 5 for about $1500. It was in an old car shop and the guy needed space. I wish i had found that find. Hes gonna build the 7 into a trail rig.

Yep I am enjoying doing the project.I'm still workin on the body, welded in some floors and replacing all the seam seals for now.I'm using all POR-15 products. I hope they are as good as they say they are.I'm basically building a mild trail rig nothing extreme..I'm keeping the 4.2 just doing some ign.upgrades and replacing the stock carb with a weber conversion. The axles are stock except goin to 3.73 R&P. Rebuilding the Trans.(TF999),new pump and heavy duty clutchs and maybe modify the valve body a bit for a more positive shift.Runnin 33's on MT Classic II 15x10. Imay change a few things as I progress in the Project but thats what I plan on..... Dan

Before I go putting primer all over the place, I wanted to confirm sometin'.... I'm not down to bare metal all over. Just in some spots. Am I better off priming the whole thing before Herc'ing it? Thanks.

I don't know what prep work needs to be done with Herc. I used Durabak,I just had to be sure that it was grease free. I just used a good grease removing detergent, let it dry and then scuffed the area with medium coarse sandpaper. I had spots that were painted and bare metal.then I filled any holes that were there and masked off the area to be done. This stuff had to be mixed real good.I applied it with a brush around the perimiter and then rolled it with a stipple roller in 2 thin coats. Oh and after you sand and vaccum up,you have to clean it with xylene a slow drying solvent. Like I said this is prep for using Durabak, it is probably the same but I can't say for sure. Good Luck and let me know how it come out... Dan

primer is always good to use when painting. it etches into the metel, then has a porous surface that jsut about everything sticks to. in the case of point and solvents it soaks all the way to the metal. primered panted surface will not let you down.
