Yeah and George is still running IFS, although I dont think its Isuzu as I believe he was running Marlin Gears, or it seemed so from the ease at which he conquered the boulder field in Tillamook. It is still Isuzu IFS. Here's an older writeup on his truck which is mostly up to date... http://www.off-road.com/isuzu/proj_sam.html Im sure a little experience helped as well. Yep -- George REALLY knows how to drive... that helps a lot! Randii [ 18 January 2002: Message edited by: randii ]

Sorry, too get involved as I have no intention on buying 'zu gears (too small ) However, as far as will the 5.13s/5.38s be too deep for me, manual tranny guys -- try not using 5th gear If 4th is tall enough for you, that would be the same as 5.38s replacing your 4.30s (and driving in 5th). I believe the autos have a taller OD so if 3rd (OD off) works fine, then thats the same as 5.38s replacing your OEM 4.10s (with OD on). Good luck, my personal opinion is buy the deepest gears you can. However, right not I'm limited to 4.56s, so a swap is not in the near future.

With the V8 your truck has, you can probably run a 35" tire with 4.56's just as effectively as I can with the 5.38's and my 2.6. The lower gearing is good for us because of the resulting higher RPM's to make more power, something I doubt your Ram is lacking.

100% agreed, I'm actually going to stick with my 4.10s with 35"s and maybe regear if 37"s or 39"s become the tire of choice. I just wanted to try help out with that OD thing.

Blue Dodge, you also have to consider your engine. Typically the american engines have a lot lower powerband than ours do. We need the low gears to stay up in the higher RPMS where our power is... hence the high factory ratios. For instance, my friend only runs 4.10s in his K5 Blazer with a 350 and 37" tires... he doesn't have a problem turning them. But put 35's on my Rodeo and i'm struggle to climb hills with my factory 4.30s.-Rob [ 19 January 2002: Message edited by: RobG ]

Rob-This is moving along very well. Do you think we can get the offical nod from Tera that they are or are not going to do the 5.38's instead of the 5.13's? Michael

Absolutely, 5.38s would be awesome with the DOHC6 or 4cyl you guys are running. I believ with OD, they would work well for any high revving engine. (My Impulse had 4.375s with 23" tires, it also had an 8000 rpm redline)

Yea, i'll check on that. I'm pretty sure the answer would be yes. Mark basically left it up to us. The original research was done on 5.13 but he told me it would only take a few days to switch over to 5.38s. So if we have no more arguements for 5.13s (from those who deposited), i'd say we're on for 5.38s officially.-Rob
