Coolant in the Block !!
      #1268058 - 08/17/12 09:18 AM

So I recently rebuilt my 89 raiders 3.0 v-6. Before putting coolant in the radiator, I had good compression and had the motor running again. Unfortunately, after I put coolant in it, I realized I had some of the hoses on the back of the intake and plenum routed wrong, and pulled coolant into the block.

Does anyone have a water hose diagram for this motor? I cant find this info in the Hayes or Chilton manual.

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the existing water out of the cylinders? Currently I have the plugs out and I figure I would kill the fuel and turn it over trying to push the coolant out... Any other ideas?

Thanks,
Mac

Having water hoses hooked up one way or another will not direct water to the combustion chamber. More likely your headgasket didn't seat. Your truck is a V6, yes? There are numerous discussion about the head bolts not fully clamping the head because the head bolt holes in the block are blind, and the bolt bottoms out. KrzyDave has a thread active about this topic.

Well, I know the hoses were going to the wrong place, because one of them was going to a vacuum line on the plenum, which would pull water into the cylinders.

The heads not seating is possible, but how would I have the motor running prior to coolant being added? I would assume if that much water was coming in, I wouldnt have 140psi of compression...

Thanks,
Mac

Thanks, page 14 shows a little more info than the books I have. I'll double check what I have now to that and see what I come up with.

That's exactly what I would do.

I'd change the oil as well.

use a small enough diameter fuel or vacuum hose,,,stick it in a shopvac hose and duct tape it in place. Stick hose in the sparkplug hole and suck away.

Taking the plugs out and crank it. Enough will blow out that the remainder is not a problem. Immediately change the oil and filter. Coolant will combine with oil stuff and make acids that eat bearing metal.
