He'll post up some pics and specs but we woke up at 4am and 4:30am, PAJ picked me up at 5am, our flight took off at 7ish and we landed in Oakland around 9am. Ate breakfast with Cap510 and Grasscat, Loaded up and started toward Phoenix about noon. Just into Bakersfield we were talking about how great time we were making and figuring we'd be in mesa just after midnight, as we were talking the rearmost U-joint overheated so bad that it started melting through the yoke (driveshaft side luckily), by the way this drive shaft had been crunched before and was out of balance and we opted to run it when we were at Cap510's house. We got out to look at it and it was trashed, so we limped to the next exit at about 10-15mph hoping for a tool store or autoparts store, instead the first thing we saw was Flores automotive. They were open so we pulled in, they were too busy to help us until the next day, so they let us use their shop and do the work ourselves. We had to modify a spare that came with the truck, it had the yoke to the 9.5" rear axle and we needed to swap the 9" flange yoke from the junked shaft. 1.5 hours later we had a new balanced shaft, gave the mechanic a 10 dollar tip for letting us borrow his tools and shop and then he invited us to have dinner with the other mechanics and their family. Paj declined and said we needed to get back on the road and that we'd get food later, I on the other hand was hungry and not willing to pass up authentic Mexican carne asada with roasted jalapenos. So Paj had no choice but to enjoy a delicious dinner because i was already making us up a couple plates After that we headed out with no problems or driveline vibes the rest of the trip. We jammed the following; Static-X, System of a Down, Fear Factory, Dimmu Borgir, Cradle of Filth, early Black Sabbath, Cavalera Conspiracy, The Misfits, Alice in Chains, Anthrax, Children of Bodom, Brujeria, Vehemence, and maybe PAJ can fill in the blanks. Got to my house around 3am.
AWESOME!!!

Is this one of the famous last 2 survivors of the Night in Isham Canyon? At least that rig has not seen any rough trails where you might have to say, I don't know...Flip it on its side and drag it up a 50' vertical cliff with a winch Or learn about Cold Water intake systems....Or make a wrong turn in the Sierras and spend the night in house sized boulders....Good Eye!

Yes, it is a surviving isham truck. Dat's old sport is officially an AZ truck now. And yes quite the adventure. Here are some pics of the New AZ Crawler Crew member.
Here is the U-Joint from the driveshaft.

This truck has definitly been rocked before. I've been going over a few things on it and there alot of little things to fix on it nothing real major from the looks of it though. Need new motor mounts, tranny mount, new front shocks, new idler arm, possiblly some new ball joints and maybe bushings all up front, need to fix the A/C condenser do to a leak and thats all I could see for right now. Engine and tranny actually run really well everything felt really strong and shifts real nice. I will most likely replace all U-Joints also.

Wonder if there is a driveline angle problem with the lift? Maybe rear needs shimmed? Would not surprise me, I still have nightmares about that lift kit on the Fordyce Creek trail. Should be a fun rig once you get it dialed in though.

Drive line angle is fairly steep. At some point it wouldn't be a bad Idea to get a custom shaft built for it. It currently has a spacer between the driveshaft flange and the pinion flange to give it it's length back. The lift is actually pretty strong and for how much dat beat on it, it's still in fairly good condition other than the normal rock rash and dings. Luckily Dat was able to figure out the CV issue he had on the Sierra's trip after he got the lift installed.
I will have to tackle a few projects to get some issue's worked out. But overall, It's a strong truck with lots more potential. I think this truck needs a little TLC and then back to the Sierra's it goes.

It definitely needs the pinion angle adjusted, it's stupid that the shop that did the spring over didn't adjust it. The fab shop that worked on that truck did some really bad work, luckily it's not too bad to fix and neither is the lift *cough SAS cough. Good score on Kevin's part though, nice truck.

Well, maybe we can finally get down to SERIOUS planning a Sierra Carange for 2013 if we can pull all these rigs together and avert any further financial crises....I am definately down.
Did Dat leave any of his stash of hot sauce bottles behind in the back? Those guys could handle 280K Scovens straight up!

Ha ha ha. No hot sauce bottles. I forgot about that. Would have been nice though. I think we need to do what lloyd said about the sierra's for 2013. It's been to long for sure since i've been there. Lloyds new rig is right around the corner from being trail worthy so I think we can make that work for sure!

Well, I hope I can get on the road in time to do some testing before then. I was thinking a fall Hole-N-The-Rock shake down trip.
Maybe if we all start to comitt now, we can finally get back in the saddle.

Lets see when my rig is done, but I would say mid October time frame for Hole-N-The-Rock? Also need to know how many days we want to consider. I usually allow a solid 3 for Hole-N-The-Rock. Want to do something else as well? Maze? Arch Canyon? Dark Canyon?(missed that last one on the last trip)

The Wench can handle anything in just about any rig, legend has it he once took a fiat X1/9 to Black Flag in area BFE Utah and completed it without breaking anything but a few bones! The tube buggy guys were so mad that they retain that this trail has never been completed. They also destroyed all evidence of WW's accomplishment as well as the X1/9, they left him with only his clothes and a CNG Tempo to get home.

Thanks clay. I will see how this next month goes on my part as for as getting the truck ready to rock again. All of its problems seem really minor, except for the gear oil stench . Toast made me, what looks to be a pretty stout tranny mount. And I picked up lloyds adapter while I was there too. I was gonna make it a goal to have it ready for its first AZ outing mid next month, hopefully all goes well.

I was there when this truck went head on with a brand new Rubicon...We pulled the ARB out from the body with my winch and kept wheeling, and Cap510 or Kirk towed the rubicon back to the highway to get a towed to the scrap yard. Good times.
