Removing Stock SteeringStabilizer / Damper
      #1265689 - 06/15/12 08:10 PM

i thought this would be a 10 minute process. but it hasn't been. and before i screw something up royally....thought i'd ask for some advice.
i am trying to tremove the original steering stabilizer from my 92 Rodeo. on the driver's side mount, i removed the 1 castle(?) nut and cotter pin from the mounting 'rod'. so i thought that was all there would be to that, and that the mount rod would then pull out of the tab it slides through. but it wont bugde. even with multiple hammer blows and prying...it isnt moving. is there something else that needs doing to remove this end of the stabilizer? just for absolute clarity...i am speaking about the horizontally mounted shock absorber on front underrside of the vehicle.

thanks for any help / suggestions.

Often those are a tapered and you may need a picke fork or bearing puller to separate. Also, soak it liberally with liquid wrench or similar to loosen.
