Like the subject says, the carb on my 2.6l Raider is dumping fuel again. I bought the carb from Mudraider earlier this year to replace the old one. That solved the problem. My mileage jumped from 10mpg to 13-15mpg at that time.
Now, the mileage is back down to 10mpg, the truck reeks of fuel when driving. The other symptom is intermittent. Sometimes, over 3000rpm, the engine stumbles really badly like its not getting air. I replaced the thermostat because it wasn't warming up, so the choke was probably closed, and it helped some, and it warms up fine now (it had been running very cold) but the problem still persists.
I just got done doing a physical inspection. While doing so I thought that one of the carburetor mounting bolts had come loose. It hadn't. It was tight, but it wasn't clamping down. Apparently when I replaced it, I didn't notice which bolt is longer than the rest. If anyone knows which one it is, I'd appreciate a bump in the right direction. I'm hoping to switch them around without having to reseal the carb to intake gasket.
Now, I'd think that with that problem there would be a huge vacuum leak, which would cause it to idle really high, but it doesn't. around 700rpm. And that's the other symptom- it idles terribly.
I'm getting pretty frustrated with this damned FBC, but I can't afford an EFI setup yet. When I move to a non smog-restricted area later this year, a weber might be possible. I'd love for this thing to just run nicely.
One last thing- I am wondering if the FBC controller might have some failed components in it, suddenly causing it to run badly. Leaking capacitors, etc. Where is it located on this Raider, so that I can open it up and take a look? After 25 years I'd imagine the capacitors are all dried out and not working.
Thanks for any and all help.

The ecu is under the glove box. I'd rebuild the carb - easy to do...

The float sinks on these. You may need a new float when you rebuild.

Well, I've worked it out where I am going to simply put a weber carb on this thing and be done with the mikuni setup. Here they are 265 shipped: http://www.webercarbsdirect.com/product_p/wk614.htm
That, a fuel regulator, and <$300 and problem solved. Now I just need $300. Next month I should be able to do it, and I'll just live with it as is for now.

I put a weber on mine, custom made the linkage and air filter so it looks like a stock carb. Passes smog with a vacuum hose unhooked (to lean idle out).
The mikuni is great carb. It passed smog in denver, cali and ariz no issues. Performed well.

A mikuni rebuild kit is around a hundred bucks...

Not having much else to do, I'm flat broke at the moment, I swapped out the vacuum box that goes on the drivers side fender well. Mudraider gave me one when I bought the carb from him, and I never put it in, so this time I did. I took it for a 3 or 4 mile drive, just enough to let it warm up. It seemed to perform just fine. Didn't reek of fuel, and it also didn't stumble at higher rpm's after I got it warmed up.
This makes me wonder if there wasn't something that was just causing the fuel mixture solenoid to just open wide up all the time. I know I'm being stubborn but I really don't think the carb is/was the culprit. Somethings telling it to richen the mixture like crazy, or was.
I'll do some more driving this week and report back.
