Great article on ARB's website about tire pressure. Very nicely written.
Check it out

Great article, love the paper footprints!
When I go offroading, it's usually high speed desert stuff and I keep my tires around 16-20 PSI.
If the terrain is soft, sandy, or loamy, I'll go 12-16, but if there's alot of rocks, I'll keep them around 18-20, less chance of sidewall punctures..

We 4wheel camp up the Haul Road at a local hot springs; you turn off the main road and take a gravel road at about 30 mph for 30 miles. I air down to about 25 psi, so as to take that D1 gravel a little better. Has been more than once I forgot to stop and get the rocks out of the tread and gave myself a flat about 1/4 mile down the pavement coming out.
We also have some heavy mud/overburden trails that are real sticky when wet, so I air down a little more and drive it like sand, depending on how soupy it is. Mattracks for tundra trails are a taaaaaad spendy.
