Where is temp sender on 4D56T?
      #1262919 - 04/18/12 03:39 PM

Hey, guys. I've finished swapping a 4D56T into my Raider and have all the gauges going except for the temp. I can't seem to find the sending unit on this engine. Can anyone tell me where it is? In the following image, there's a two-pin sensor on the top left of the engine, near the radiator hose, but I don't think it's for the temp. Many thanks.

Jeff, if that's it, then I've got a problem — it's not registering on the Raider's stock temp gauge. For the oil pressure gauge, I had to install a Raider sending unit, which had the same threads as the 4D56T's oil sender. But the diesel's stock temp unit is considerably chunkier, and has different threads, than the Raider's. I've put them side by side in the following image to show you what I mean. So what's the solution? Is there some sort of adaptor so I can use the Raider's unit? I know that the sensor has to be matched to the gauge. Many thanks.

You are talking about the coolant temp. sender that is in your first pic right?
My Mazda guage is just one wire, I hooked it to one of the two posts on the sender and it works great. Can't emagine why yours doesn't.

Jeff, here are two images. One shows antifreeze in the temperature sensor port on the upper radiator hose housing. The other shows the stock Raider sensor that I've just installed. It has only one pin.

Mine doesn't have that one, it has the two wire one. I just hooked up my single wire guage to the yellow wire coming from the sensor and it works.

Jeff, you lead a charmed life. Everything you touch works, while everything I touch makes things more complicated.

Curtis, thanks for your enthusiasm. I'm bringing the Raider in for its new exhaust system later this week. After that's done, it will be road-worthy and all that will be left is the cosmetic work.
